Teacher Life

Today:

Ran late, had to get a cheap bagel (don't make enough for a real meal).  Then I walk in the door and the IT person is already rude to me.  Then I spend the next 35 minutes in a meeting with my department about data of our students.  Things like drop out rate, enrollment, changes from first quarter to second quarter.

I didn't have a first class of the day today.  Today was the day the IT person was to come to my room and take my computer away because now we have teacher devices.  She set up my old monitor and elmo (projector) to work with my new teacher device (laptop that is also a tablet thing).  I realized I need my big desk to move to the front of my room for this new set up.  Plus for 5 years my classroom phone has been at the front of my room and I am tired of running to answer in time.  I emailed custodial to move it for me.  They said maybe tonight if they have time I am really hoping they do!  Then I had to call the help desk because the phone previously mentioned has a screen with date, time and who is calling that now has lines breaking it up making it unreadable.  So I am also getting a new phone. Then I had to make copies and lesson plan for tomorrow.  The grade some geography quizzes.

Then my conference ended and about 20 students are in my room for a study hour.  Immediately I have students wanting me to sign passes so they can go see another teacher for help or go the lab to work on a project.  Then the students I am left with study for an hour.

After that my American Government class comes in.  They sit and I take attendance while they do my differentiated bell-work (bell-work based on choices). Then we watch some news and discuss.  Then I lecture about the different types of colonies.  They they do a foldable I designed on the Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, and the Declaration of Independence. Then I spend the next 30 minutes helping some get started (lazy).  I did have a student ask me to proof read something for a debate assignment which was fun.  I like when they value me as a teacher. Two of my students asked if the mayflower had a flower on the ship...no. Then we have a 30 minute lunch where I watch netflix alone in my room eating peanut butter on saltines because I ran late.  The bell rings so the return for another 30 minutes to finish their assignment.   Bell Rings...

Next class is World History where they will learn nothing from me today because a counselor has come to talk to them about scheduling classes for next year.  But I digress, because about 10 minutes into class we have a storm drill (very loud), followed by a fire drill (very very loud).  Then we come back then the counselor is there.  They talk.  Then the day is over for students.  I have to make copies and check my mailbox to sign attendance verification sheets.  Then I can go home.

But I cant I have to go to fedex to mail a defective mouse.  Then pick up the pizza for dinner because this Tuesday feels like a real Monday.
